Sustenance of Planted Trees

  • Saplings planted in rows shall have a minimum 1 metre wide strip on either side free from concrete, pavers, or any impermeable material.
  • The saplings strip shall be maintained with porous/permeable materials such as sand, gravel, pebbles, cobbles, grass, or flower beds.
  • The permeable strip shall allow natural water percolation into the soil.
  • Adequate subsurface water shall be available for healthy saplings growth.
  • Saplings shall receive sufficient sunlight for proper development.
  • Saplings shall be supported with good-quality topsoil to ensure healthy growth and root development.

Guidelines for Community Tree Plantation (2026-27)

Minimum Plantation Requirement:

A minimum of 30 saplings shall be planted in each identified locality under a single plantation drive.

Sapling Specifications:

Each sapling shall conform to the minimum size and quality standards prescribed by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) for plantation.

Annual Plantation Target:

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), together with its five City Corporations, has set a collective target of planting 64,130 saplings during the financial year 2026-27.

Planting Spacing and Pit Dimensions:

Citizens, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), and participating organizations shall ensure that:

  • A minimum spacing of 12 feet is required between two adjacent saplings to facilitate healthy growth and long-term canopy development.
  • Each sapling is planted in a pit measuring 2.5 ft * 2.5 ft * 2.5 ft (approximately 0.75 m * 0.75 m * 0.75 m) to provide adequate space for root establishment and proper soil conditioning.
